Uridium from C64 would be a real blast, but honestly speaking I am fully aware it's a daunting task and almost impossible to do. In my opinion ATARI needs real Uridium since Mirax Force, Atari's equivalent of Uridium is a crap.
I saw something called "Uridium" for Atari, and it was shit, in fact. But there was also

Holy crap !!! You are right brunon, however I've downloaded and checked this sucker and it's far from real Uridium. First off, there is no mother ship from which our ship should start. The alien ships are so laaaaaaame. What's more all big ships are in black and white, and this terrible logo.... On the other hand the fast horizontal scrolling is intact and our ship rotates pretty well. So, part of the job has been done and if somebody could pick this code up and improve it would be GREAT !!! Hey jamesd what you think about it ????
Frankly, I haven't played this game much - but looks similiar to original and IMO bit better than this

Uridium was great game on Amiga. http://www.vgmuseum.com/amiga2.htm, But I have never seen it on c64 or spectrum. And What about real space action R-Type? Much better than Uridium And Much better than Zybex, Guardian, Mirax Force, Thunderfox, Lizard, Transmutter and one game from SONIX (I cant remember).
Use Zybex engine, make new gfx, sfx, guns:) and its done:) Or any kick action game Target Renegade?

personally I don`t like Uridium and there are already 6 uridium clones for Atari available:
- vanax/vanadium (or something like that, see atarimania.com)
- an activision game on cart.
- mirax force by Chris Paul Murray (CPM)
- the sequel to mirax force by the same author
- oxygene by german demo crew TAT
- thunderfox (one of the worst games) by Atari
no more uridium clones or conversions, please !!
hmm, personally I would like to see:
- a Super Mario Bros clone (Bros by KE-Soft and/or Monster hunt by MHS are not so great)
- a Sonix clone
- a Prince of Persia clone (meaning part 1, the old 386 and/or 486 PC version, programmed by the same author as Karateka !)
- an R-Type clone (better than Zybex, please!)
- a racing game with realistic computer opponents (simple gfx like Pitstop 1, but realistic or realtime computer opponents and maybe two players or via multijoy 4 players or via multilink/network 4 players, also realistic/realtime); meaning no random appearance of opponents cars; a tournement mode with approx. 8 different tracks and a point system (like in a F1 race)...
or maybe:
- a sequel to fort apocalypse with new and bigger levels
- a sequel to bruce lee with new and bigger levels
- a a sequel to conan with new and bigger levels
- a sequel to Henry`s House with easier levels but the same good gfx
- a sequel to Mousetrap (Tynesoft/MicroValue) with new levels

Prince of persia is a good idea, simple graphics (in game), but there can be problem with prince animated moves. Its too hard paint it, but all animation fields can be converted, cant be? R-Type is great shooting game. But there arent response on this game.
Three possible games for coders compo - Uridium, Prince of Persia (old) or R-Type.

Something that is really passible and don't need any complex animations:
History Line - 1914-1918
The battle animations are completly unnessesary, i always turn them off in pc version, the simple battle mode looks much better.
(hm... i dont remember any atari strategy game with more then one map)
but this game even on pc has realy big size (even without any graphics...)
on amauroter engine yo can write WarCraft 3
